THE PEOPLE’S FILM CLUB PRESENTS: ‘LOVE YOU TO DEATH + DISCUSSION’
DIRECTOR: Vanessa Engle
‘The People’s Film Club Presents: ‘Love You To Death: A Year of Domestic Violence’ + Q&A with acclaimed director Vanessa Engle
Join us on Monday 26th February for our screening of ‘Love You To Death: A Year of Domestic Violence’, a documentary which sheds light on an incredibly important and under-reported issue – the continuing violence experienced by women in the UK. Domestic violence will affect 1 in 4 women in the UK in their lifetime. On average, two women in England and Wales are killed every week by a current or former male partner. The film tells the untold human stories behind these statistics. Following the documentary, we will be joined by acclaimed director Vanessa Engle for a Q+A.
As always, The People’s Film Club is more that just a screening. Join us beforehand for drinks, conversations, and the chance to support local artists. There will be a ‘Notes of Love’ stand (www.instagram.com/mybodybackproject), which will be shared with women who have experienced sexual violence. There will be cards, zines, and art for sale, all going towards helping our chosen charities.
All proceeds from the evening will be split between LAWA and Sistah Space, two charities who work to support survivors of domestic violence in London. LAWA is the only refuge provider in the UK and Europe for Latin American, Black and minority ethnic women and children experiencing, or recovering from, domestic violence. Sistah Space is a service offering specialist support for African heritage women & girls affected by domestic or sexual violence/abuse/FGM.
